Debunking the Myths About Freelance Digital Marketing
There are so many schemes online that you can start to believe that all online business marketing is a fraud. I was publishing one such scheme by Keala Kanae called Freelance Affiliate Guide Review when I realized just how often people are searching for how to succeed in the field of affiliate marketing.
In this article, I’ll debunk some myths about freelance marketing, uncover the skills successful freelancers possess, and show what it takes to succeed. By the end, you’ll have a deeper understanding of the freelance digital marketing world, and know where to get started.
Have you seen gurus like the one above all over your social media? They can leave a bad taste in your mouth when it comes to freelance digital marketing.
- Freelance Digital Marketing Misconceptions: Despite common beliefs, it’s a real deal, not just about flashy promises and overnight riches.
- A Legit Career Path: Far from just guru hype, freelance digital marketing is a thriving and genuine profession.
- Skyrocketing Demand: With more businesses valuing online presence, the need for savvy digital marketers is soaring.
- Diverse Skill Set Pays Off: Skills like social media management, SEO, PPC, content creation, and email marketing are in high demand – and they pay well.
- Busting the Myths: Real freelance digital marketing isn’t about ‘done-for-you’ systems, quick cash schemes, or far-fetched revenue promises.
In my experience, you should stay away from platforms that are filled with red flags like this. A few examples of these are:
- Keala Kanae’s courses (Fullstaq Marketer, Digital Freelancer)
- John Crestani’s courses (Super Affiliate System)
- Blake Nubar’s courses (Social Media Lead Machine)
- and many, many others.

Great article! It’s refreshing to see someone debunking the myths and setting the record straight. I appreciate the emphasis on hard work. I like how you don’t really sugar coat it and tell it how it is. I know that myself getting into affiliate marketing has been a serious and dedicated turning point in my life to create something meaningful and potentially beneficial in the future. But ultimately, I’m starting to realize that the more care and passion you put into your content and actually trying to help your readers does make a difference in the type of quality information one provides. I’m still learning but I think I’m on the right path. It’s a lifestyle!

Well put! Keep up the great work on your journey! Thanks for the comment!

I appreciate you listing some of the ones to avoid as I am sure this will help many of us. I do agree with you and I have learned there are no get rich quick schemes that work. Typically the only person getting rich is the one selling the product. I am going to look into some of the reliable ones you recommended and take some time to go over your skills list to be better prepared. Thanks for a great article. Brian

Agreed! Thanks for the comment!

Your article has a lot of details and shows how much time and effort has been put into it.
One thing that caught my attention is the use of different terminology directed to the same meaning. The use of digital marketer, freelancer, affiliate marketer in interchangeable manner.
For example a digital marketer can be an employee or a freelancer, doing digital marketing as an employee for one company for a salary, or as a freelancer for different companies or business owners, or even other freelancers from other industries, for a fee. This fee is not tied to sales, this fee is based on project deliverables agreed upon by both parties.
An affiliate marketer is not a digital marketer, but uses digital marketing to advertise for his/her site, whether it is a website, or social media account on which this person is selling other people’s products/services. The income comes from the commission of sales, not from the marketing effort.
An affiliate marketer can use the services of a digital marketing freelancer for more effective campaigns and better reach.
I think there is an opportunity here to talk about each of the terms used in this article separately, for example one article could be talking about freelancers in digital marketing, another talking about affiliate marketing, then branching out to say affiliates with a website presence, affiliates without a website but on social media, then branch out more to talk about affiliates using one particular social platform, then another article for another social platform, and so on.
Thank you very much for this article as it made me think more about those terms.

I appreciate the comment! I would slightly disagree in that, by definition, if a freelance digital marketer is a self-employed individual using one or several marketing channels and techniques to help businesses promote their products and services, then an affiliate marketer is, in fact, a freelance digital marketer. That’s why I use many of these terms interchangeably. Thanks again!
