How hard is it to build a website? Are you looking to build a blog? Sell your stuff? Create your own online business? I’m going to show you how I built this website and many others through Wealthy Affiliate in 4 easy steps.
How Hard is it to Build a Website?
First determine what kind of website you want. Then you’re going to choose your domain. Do you want a .com, .net, .org? Next choose a title for your website (it usually matches the domain). And last choose a theme that allows you to fully customize your website and bring it to life.
Has this been an obstacle for you in the past? Don’t worry! You’re not alone if you’re not feeling “tech savvy” enough. So many people dread taking that first step. But I’m here to tell you that it’s much easier than you think. Watch the following video and see how to build your own website free using Wealthy Affiliate.
Where You Build Your Website Matters
There are so many website building platforms out there, does it matter where you build yours? It does if you care about features like quality and security! Wealthy Affiliate has lightning fast websites, great hosting and security, thousands of mobile friendly and mobile responsive themes, and more.
If you want to start off first with a free domain (almost like a rough draft), Wealthy Affiliate has got you covered. Wealthy Affiliate uses SiteRubix for websites built on a free domain. In my opinion, it’s the best free domain website builder you’ll find. It’s state of the art, stable, secure, and a perfect fit for creating your very first Wordpress website.
After creating your free starter account with Wealthy Affiliate, clicking on the Websites tab is where we start for building our site. This opens a window with several options and features you can use to make the most of your website.
Site Manager
Site Manager is where you can find all the websites you build at Wealthy Affiliate. As a free member you can build 1 free website, while as a premium member you can host 3 or up to 10 with Premium Plus.
Wealthy Affiliate’s domains average around $15.99/year. As a premium member you get your own free .com domain with a premium hosting package included with your WA premium membership that you’d pay $250-$300/month elsewhere.
Site Builder
Site Builder, as you may have guessed, is where you build your website. This can be done in as little as 30 seconds in 4 easy steps!
Site Domains
Any time you want to purchase a domain, Site Domains is your spot. You can also use the “move” feature to move your website from the free Siterubix domain over to a premium .com domain, for example. When you choose to do that, it’s literally a one-click process. If you already own a domain, you can save money by transferring it to Wealthy Affiliate’s hosting as well.
Site Content
Wealthy Affiliate is much more than a platform to build websites. At its core it’s an affiliate marketing training platform that trains you step by step through the process of building a successful online business. And a huge part of that is understanding how to create consistent, high quality content.

Building Your Website in 4 Easy Steps
This is truly the first step towards being your own boss and doing what you want to do, so take a moment to appreciate this! Building a lightning fast, responsive website is a step most people never take purely out of fear of the unknown.
Follow these 4 steps, and in as little as 30 seconds your very own website will be live and online!
1. What Kind of Website Do You Want to Build?
Pick between a free website or create one on a domain you own. You can also register and search for a brand new domain name to own by clicking on Register a Domain.
2. Choose a Domain Name for Your Website
You’ll want to pick something that goes with your niche. Just don’t spend days trying to pick the perfect name. I like to choose a name that’s 4 words or less, easy to spell and type out, looks good on paper, etc.
Make sure it’s spelled right, and then move to the next step.
3. Enter a Title for Your Website
This usually matches the domain name. Unlike the domain name, though, you’ll be able to change this at any time, so don’t sweat it too much.
4. Choose a Design for Your Website
Wordpress is the most widely used platform across the internet! As a free member you can pick from 12 theme choices to fit your needs. As a premium member you can choose from literally thousands as seen in the screenshot above.
They’re hand picked to be responsive, look great on mobile, and create a great user experience for your audience. Pick one that works for you, and you’ll be able to customize it and make your dream website come to life!
And just like that you’re done! Your website is live, ready to customize, and ready to fill with CONTENT!

Thank you for sharing this, you’ve really broken this down well. I have tried in the past with little success to build my own, but only because I didn’t have any guidance to what I was doing. I had that feeling of “now what?”, and this really helped I will make a start this weekend! Great!
Best of luck! Thanks for the comment!
One of my uncles used to be a website builder for several companies in the UK. He had to learn coding, all the tags. Each new page was and all this other code that I could never get my head around. Now, you don’t need it as this article explains very well. It’s amazing how far we have come. I really liked this post!
Thanks so much! I appreciate the comment!
I can still remember the time before content management systems such as WordPress existed. You needed to have a vast amount of CSS and HTML knowledge to build a website. Today there are so many WordPress themes available that make it easier for beginners to start a blog. Site Rubix does a great job of making this process even easier. I won’t ever go back to the old-fashioned way of building a website.
Well said! Thanks for the comment!
I know some people who shy away from anything they deem technical when it comes to technology and computers. They assume programming languages are involved when it comes to building websites. Fortunately, the web has come such a long way and you do not have to write one line of code to have a fully functioning, money-making website. I’ve used the Siterubix builder and it was a breeze to set a website up.
Well said! Websites are easier and easier to build, and they are such a great tool for revenue that so many people overlook. Thanks for the comment!
Back in the days when I was at college I started learning Fortran. And even tested water with C++. So, I naturally thought I would need to know how to code when I began to interest myself in having my own site. But I am so happy (excited too) to discover that creating a website is very straightforward.
Hey, if you know some coding, it only helps. But it’s great for people like me to know that building a website was absolutely possible even without knowing anything about coding or HTML. Thanks for the comment!
I always thought it would be very hard to build a website, I am not technically good at all with computers. But reading your article, I will give it a go and try to make a beautiful website. And I see that I can even try it out for free with the help of Wealthy affiliate and Siterubix, fantastic! I will dive right into it, thanks!
I was in your same boat a few years back. I think you’ll love the training! Thanks for the comment!
Your approach to the concept of building websites is unique to me. Your different posts are interesting to read and I find them informative. Even the pop-up gives one pause in a positive way. The training you’re promoting must be a good one for your website to flow this nicely. Good luck to you!
I appreciate the kind words! Thanks so much and thanks for the comment!
Wonderful article. This is all so beautifully explained. I am going to try out Wealthy Affiliate and tell you if it works for me.
Thank you for this opportunity.
Regards,
AB
I think you’ll enjoy it! Thanks for the comment and do come back!
I bounced around a number of affiliate SaaS and training platforms before finding Wealthy Affiliate. It is a diamond in the rough. I’ve also had a few websites outside of WA before, and have to say their managed WP hosting is the most stress free way to deal with WP as a non developer. If you want to get into the laptop lifestyle, all you need is WA and persistence.
Very well put. Thanks for the comment!
This is such a wonderful article Eric. Love the detailed information you have provided, as also your sense of humor.
Regards,
Aps
Thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing this information. I can remember how I struggled just coming up with a niche for my website. I really struggled to find my space online. I think it was because I kept overthinking. When you say you should follow your passion or interests, does that mean anything at all will work? Thanks.
Well, anything to a point. You obviously want there to be products or services that you could leverage and promote to earn affiliate commissions. The reason it’s critical to have your niche reflect your interests is because you’re going to posting a lot of content to this niche website. If it’s something you’re interested in, then this won’t seem like such a chore. Thanks for the comment!
This systems look quite straight forward. Thank you.
You’re very welcome! Thanks for the comment!
I remember when I first started solidifying my space online how it took me forever to start because I didn’t know the fundamentals of starting a business let alone a website. It’s a lot of work right? NO! The Wealthy Affiliate platform makes it so easy to create a website from scratch. Thank you for taking the time to share with us this information. I love being a part of the community.
You’re very welcome. I remember exactly how it felt when I began and I couldn’t have been happier with the training. Thanks for the comment!
I used to use Bluehost before discovering Wealthy Affiliate and there’s no comparison! Site support are on to your problem within minutes and the community are very friendly and helpful.
Agreed. I feel like Site Support with WA is such an underrated feature. I’ve reached out to them several times over the years when I had questions about the technical side of my site and every single time they swoop in within minutes and take care of my question. Thanks for the comment!
Hi Eric, I love your explanation on building a website through Wealthy Affiliate for free. I did sign up and found the steps very easy to follow. Now I have transferred my free website onto my own domain.

First, I LOVE the website! You’re very welcome! Glad you enjoyed this!
I wanted to chime in because I’m familiar with siterubix, and yes, you can use it to build a fast website that’s professional and without much effort or tech needed. My main question is: do you recommend using siterubix for every site? What do you say about comparing it to other systems?
Thank you very much!
For a free website, I definitely recommend siterubix. Then, if you choose to upgrade to your own .com, .net, or .org, Wealthy Affiliate is hands down the best platform to do that with since the hosting packages are so robust and affordable. Thanks so much for the comment!
Hi there,

Hello there! This is an amazing article you’ve got here. I’ve sincerely learnt a lot from your article. As a newbie in blogging it took me weeks to create a website and months to fix it right. But I think this will help a friend of mine create hers without stress.
Thanks for sharing this with me, it’s helpful!
Very glad to help! Continued success with your growing business, and thanks for the comment!
I have experience with a few different web hosting platforms, and Wealthy Affiliate’s SiteRubix is the best I’ve used so far. Even if you decide to upgrade from the free site, the membership price is similar to quality, full service hosting elsewhere, especially once you factor in all the upsells other platforms sneak in. SiteRubix is more straightforward and easier to use than others, too. Even the free sites are fast, and reliable, and it’s all designed with internet marketers and bloggers in mind. But one of the most important features, I think, is Site Support. I’m not the kind of person who typically contacts customer support. I don’t like to complain about things, and even when I have a real problem, I always try to fix it myself first. But they make Site Support so easy that even someone like me won’t hesitate to contact them. I have a few times over the years, and each time my problem was fixed (yes FIXED) in about an hour. It’s a definite plus in already exceptional hosting.
Thank you for sharing your perspective! I’m happy to hear you’ve had a great experience. I’ve felt it’s the best online for a while, and yes, Site Support is outSTANDING! Thanks for the comment!
Hey there Eric. You’re have a natural talent and making building and managing a website actually seem doable for me. I have always wanted my little shop to go online but I lack the technical skills. I’ll definitely look into this platform you recommended.
Thank you very much for this post! It has made me believe I can have an online presence.
Thanks for the kind words and thank you for the comment! Best of luck!
Did you have any experience at all prior before you started building out your site, or had you dabbled in it a little bit? Building a website is indeed intimidating and scary, but the way you explain it here I’m feeling a little more at ease… Did you find it intimidating at first?
Don’t be intimidated. This is NOT going to be an obstacle for you, trust me. With everything there’s a learning curve, but you’re guided every step of the way by easy to follow video tutorials and the community at WA is a HUGE help whenever you have any kind of question. I think you’ll enjoy the experience! Thanks for the comment!
Thanks for such an awesome insight. i join wealthy affiliate some weeks back and I am already building my website with the help of some coaching and mentorship, I would love to ask a question I can I increase the traffic in my website to make OT more marketable.
thanks, best regards.
I’m not sure what “OT” is but the key to increasing traffic is really to be consistent with publishing quality content. When Google sees that you are pushing out content on a very regular basis, 2-3 posts per week, they take notice. If you’re just starting out, don’t worry, stick with the training and you’ll be guided through everything step by step and at a pace you’re comfortable with. As you learn more and more about keyword research you’ll see your traffic building in no time. Thanks for the comment!
Eric thanks, this is one of the most comprehensive write-ups that I have seen. You made it easy to follow and for someone like me that isn’t the best with these kinds of things it was TRULY important. I hope that this is what I am looking for, I will be back to tell you one way or the other.
I am excited thanks for the post
Hamish
Glad you enjoyed this, Hamish! Thanks for the comment!
Great guide, looks like you can create websites with siterubix in no time. Have you used wordpress? How is siterubix compared to wordpress? Thanks
SiteRubix is 100% Wordpress based. All websites built on SiteRubix domains are built with Wordpress. The free domain will have the .siterubix.com suffix, and if you choose to later register a domain with Wealthy Affiliate, you can transfer all the contents from your SiteRubix domain to your own .com, .net, or .org domain with one click. Thanks for the question!
