YouTube SEO: Ranking Your Videos Higher In Search Results

YouTube SEO how to make videos rank higher

YouTube is a powerhouse search engine! Billions of searches are happening every month, and knowing how to make your YouTube videos rank higher is the name of the game! Let’s talk YouTube SEO and get the secret sauce you’ve been looking for!

How to Make YouTube Videos Rank Higher

YouTube SEO is absolutely pivotal for ranking videos higher. Always focus on content quality, know where to place your focus keyword on-page and off-page in meta, build an avalanche of audience engagement, and use analytics to double down on what works!

Optimizing Your Video Content to Get the Most Reach

Think of YouTube SEO as the roadmap that navigates viewers straight to your videos. I’m here to help you decipher the fundamentals of YouTube SEO and why it matters, not just from a technical standpoint, but from a viewer’s perspective. Put these strategies in place, and you’ll be ranking at the top of YouTube’s results consistently and cashing in on YouTube monetization!

Think content quality even above SEO!: Everyone wants their YouTube videos in front of the most eyes possible, right? It all starts with the content itself. If your videos don’t offer value, all the SEO tricks in the book won’t help bring it to the top of the rankings. Even if you’re building your YouTube channel from scratch you need to create content that not only hooks your viewers but also keeps them watching. This means making sure your videos are equally informative AND entertaining.

Content that answers your audience’s pain points: When we talk about video value and its impact on SEO, it’s all about how your content answers your audience’s searches. This is where YouTube keyword research comes into play. It’s about relevance and usefulness. I found my success when I started creating content that answered my audience’s questions, solved their problems, or provides my own unique perspective on questions they made in search.

Be the answer they’re searching (and staying) for: YouTube’s algorithms are smart—they track how viewers react to your content. If people are bouncing out after a couple of seconds, that’s a red flag to the algorithms that your video might not be offering much. Be that answer your audience is looking for. Put yourself in their shoes. Deliver on value and the YouTube search gods will smile down on you!

How to do it: Focus on storytelling and create engagement. I try my hardest in my YouTube videos to use clear explanations and timely visuals. I also pay attention to the pacing of my content. If it’s too slow or too fast, you’ll lose viewers. Your goal is to maintain high audience retention rates—meaning viewers stick around for a good portion of your video. This is a strong signal to YouTube that your content is worth recommending to others.

Don’t sleep on production quality: High-quality video and audio production can go a long way. You don’t need ultra expensive equipment either. Smartphones nowadays deliver excellent video quality. A little basic editing to remove unnecessary pauses or ums can make a big difference too.

No face, no problem: If you’re not super confident in your on-camera presence, trying starting with voice over and simple screen casting videos. That’s where I got my start and landed my first top ranking videos and started growing my Youtube subscribers! Did you know you can create high ranking YouTube videos without your face OR your voice? Check out my Pictory review!

Once your content is on point, now it’s time to complement it with the secret sauce: smart YouTube SEO practices. And that’s exactly what we’re going to tackle next.

Did Someone Say YouTube Metadata?

If you want to give your YouTube videos a head start in the race for visibility, mastering the overlooked art of metadata is crucial. Think of metadata as the backstage pass that introduces your content to the search algorithm. Let’s create video content the search engines can’t ignore. Tubebuddy is a great tool for mastering your YouTube metadata.

It all starts with the title: This seems obvious, but the title of your video is your virtual handshake with your audience. Make it count! Use relevant keywords that precisely describe your content, but keep it engaging and attention getting. Remember, the title has to appeal to both YouTube’s algorithms and the real people making searches.

Video descriptions matter: Descriptions are prime real estate on YouTube. Here’s where you get a little more room to play with keywords and essential details. The first couple of lines are especially vital. They can appear in search results and can influence whether someone clicks on your video. Include a strong call-to-action (CTA), point towards additional resources, and yes, inject those all-important keywords—but keep it natural. No keyword stuffing!

Get your tags on point: Now, let’s talk tags. They’re like whispers to YouTube’s search engine, hinting at what your video is all about. Even though they don’t necessarily play a huge role in the algorithm, every bit counts. Use them wisely to include your main keywords, but also include variations that capture the broader context of your video.

What about subtitles?: Lastly, closed captions and subtitles can seriously impact your YouTube SEO and so many people overlook them. When I started creating a transcript for my videos it made a big difference for me in my rankings. Subtiles not only make your videos accessible to a wider audience, but they also VERY IMPORTANTLY feed the algorithm with more text that can be indexed! I use Podcastle to generate transripcs of all my videos in minutes!

Don’t forget about off-page YouTube SEO!: Have you ever thought about the actual video file you’re uploading to YouTube? There’s spots available in the video’s metadata to inlude your focus keyword, tags, and even a video description. Don’t sleep on these areas! Every little bit counts!

The next crucial factor is engagement. You can have the slickest metadata around, but if nobody’s interacting with your content, it’s like throwing a party that no one shows up for. As we pivot to the next section, let’s see how engagement acts as the loudspeaker for your videos, cranking up the volume so that YouTube—and its users—can’t help but take notice.

Boosting Your Video’s Engagement Potential

When it comes to YouTube, audience engagement is huge. This goes beyond views, it’s about building a community that interacts with your content. This includes likes, comments, and shares, all of which send strong signals to YouTube’s algorithm.

You want engagement? Ask for it!: Don’t be afraid to give your audience a nice gentle push to engage! Engagement is crucial for better ranking, so don’t be shy! Prompt your audience to smash that like button, leave a comment, and share your videos.

Q & A: The best YouTubers don’t just talk “at” their audience, they make them feel like they’re right there with them. Reach out to your audience through your video. Ask questions and make them feel so much a part of your content that they want to chime in with an answer in the comments. Make your video like a one on one private conversation and watch that engagement soar!

Don’t forget your socials: We use YouTube so much as a search engine that we forget it’s is part of the larger social media ecosystem. Share your latest video on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and even LinkedIn, depending on your target audience. Once they land on the socials they can get shared, reposted, retweeted, and extend your reach further than you imagined.

Analytics For Tracking Success and Making Adjustments

Create, analyze and refine. That’s the strategy I like to use with my YouTube channel. YouTube analytics offers great metrics to track your success. It’s not filled with a bunch of filler either, it shows clear metrics where you can continually improve.

Adapt and adjust: It’s important to note that SEO isn’t static. A lot is happening very quickly in the world of online video. You have to stay flexible and be willing to tweak your approach all the time.

Metrics that matter: If a video isn’t ranking as high as you’d like in metrics like watch time or engagement, see what you can do to improve. Did your audience drop off right away? Amp up the energy to start! Take away the lulls and get right to the point. Don’t focus too much on perfection; just make it a focus to learn with each video you post.

18 Tips For Growing Your YouTube Channel Subscribers Fast

tips for growing your youtube channel subscribers

There’s no “secret sauce” to growing your YouTube channel subscribers fast. It all boils down to delivering value consistently and knowing your audience’s needs. So what strategies do you need to implement? In this article I’ll share with you 16 tips for growing your YouTube channel subscribers fast and having them come back for more!

How do YouTubers get more subscribers?

To grow YouTube channel subscribers, remember the basics: focus on a specialized, narrow niche, make your channel design attractive, publish consistent people-first content, be big on community engagement, and don’t sleep on analytics!

It Starts With a Solid YouTube Foundation

So you want to start your YouTube channel and skyrocket those subscriber numbers? Setting a strong foundation is your first task.

Know your audience: Defining your YouTube niche is all about understanding who’s going to watch your videos. When you do this, you’re making sure your channel has a clear focus. This has a ripple effect on everything from branding to audience engagement.

Your channel’s first impressions: Have you gone into your channel to see how welcoming it is to new viewers? Don’t worry too much about being a design expert, just make your channel welcoming. You can use Fiverr to have someone create you a striking logo, use bold color schemes, and a layout that screams ‘subscribe!’ It’s these creative touches that let viewers know you’re serious about your content.

Let’s talk content strategy: Having a content strategy is like a roadmap that tells you where you’re going and how you’re going to get there. A well-thought-out plan includes what types of videos you’ll produce, how often you’ll upload, and even little nuggets of content that keep people coming back for more.

Consistency is key: Uploading on a regular schedule not just keeps your audience hooked but also plays nice with YouTube’s algorithms. So, set a realistic schedule you can stick to, and your subscribers will start to pile up before you know it.

Now that the foundation is set, I’m going to lead you into creating stand-out videos. High-quality, captivating content is what’s going to get those viewers to hit the ‘Subscribe’ button.

Creating Videos That Make You Stand Out From the Crowd

Saying ‘Content is King’ isn’t just a catchy phrase; it’s a fundamental principle in the world of YouTube. Your YouTube success hinges on your ability to create videos that capture and maintain your audience’s attention. So how do you stand out?

Storytelling: Storytelling is a highly underrated and powerful tool that will give your videos an edge. I try my best to be relatable by thinking of the main pain points my audience is searching for answers for and using my own experiences to describe how I’ve overcome those same struggles. Use your personal experiences and insights to connect with your audience and watch those subscriber numbers soar.

SEO isn’t just for websites: YouTube SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is very, very real. It’s all about choosing catchy titles, using relevant keywords in descriptions, and tagging your videos correctly. These strategies make sure your content reaches viewers who are actively searching for topics you cover. Want to check out a great tool for YouTube SEO? My fave is Tubebuddy.

Don’t sleep on quality: Lastly, remember that content quality will easily make or break a loyal subscriber base. People subscribe because they see value in what you offer and want to keep up with your work. So invest some time and resources into creating valuable, high-quality content. It’s not about spending big bucks either. When I got started I just used a quality video editor (Screenflow for Mac) and did simple voice over vids. After a while, I graduated to letting my face be my brand and I saw the connection and subscribers really grow. All you need to get started is a smartphone!

Engaging with Your Viewers Builds Community

how to grow youtube channel subscribers fast

Engaging with your audience creates a conversation around your videos. Responding to comments personally will make viewers feel valued and more likely to subscribe. If you’re going to succeed in this, you need to genuinely care about their feedback and show that you’re listening.

The often overlooked ‘Community’ tab: Use the Community tab (accessible from your channel page) to share behind-the-scenes content, polls, or simply ask for opinions. This adds another layer of interaction that can really enhance your channel’s community spirit.

Did someone say collab?: Collaborating with other relevant YouTubers in your niche is a powerful way to build your community. It opens up your channel to a wider audience, which in turn can lead to more subscribers. When choosing collaborators, pick individuals who are a good fit with your channel’s. Make the connection seamless and your audience will grow.

Contests and giveaways: Contests and giveaways can be incredibly effective in boosting your engagement and creating excitement around your channel. By encouraging viewers to participate in challenges or competitions, you create a fun reason for them to stay engaged with your content and share it with others.

Now, let’s transition into how you can take these engagements and turn them into analytical gold. Knowing what works and what doesn’t is everything in your journey to grow your subscriber base!

Doubling Down on What Works – Analytics and Adjustments

If you want to grow your YouTube channel, you can’t fly blind. That’s where YouTube Analytics comes in, and trust me, even as a non-analytics guy, the metrics they let you stay on top of are HUGE for growing your subscribers.

Watch time: First off, watch time is a critical factor. YouTube is always going to cater to videos and channels that keep viewers on the platform longer. By analyzing which videos have the highest watch time, you can determine what content works the best with your audience.

Click through rate (CTR): Your thumbnails and titles are your first impression, and a high CTR means they’re doing their job well. Use YouTube Analytics to test different styles and see what drives the most clicks.

Audience retention: This metric shows you how well your content holds viewers’ attention. Aim to keep this number high by using engaging, attention-getting openings and maintaining interest throughout your video. Keep the energy high and bring that audience in till the finish!

Adjust and adapt: Regularly reviewing these metrics allows for adjustments to be made. Maybe a certain video style starts to trend, or you notice a shift in what your audience prefers. When you respond to these changes quickly, you keep your channel dynamic and relevant. Don’t get paralysis by analysis though. Keep your focus on creating more great content. The more data you have, the truer the analytics will be.

Don’t forget about viewer feedback: Your viewers are also a goldmine of feedback. Reading and responding to comments isn’t just courteous, it’s strategic and should be a major focus as a content creator. Your audience will tell you what they love, what they don’t, and even what they want to see next. Never let a comment go without a response!

Promotion and Visibility: Spreading the Word about Your Channel

Let’s tackle the final stretch in amping up your YouTube channel: promotion and visibility. You’ve put in the hard work to create valuable content, so let’s make sure the right eyes see it.

Social media: Social media is a powerful ally. Choose platforms that fit your vibe and target where your potential audience hangs out. Share your videos, engage in discussions, and network with relevant communities. And remember to always add value. Don’t just spam your stuff!

Cross promoting: Cross-promotions can be golden opportunities. Collaborating with other content creators can introduce your channel to their audience and vice-versa. Look for collaboration opportunities that align with your niche.

What about PPC?: Have you ever wondered if paid advertisements and pay-per-click campaigns (PPC) can boost your subscriber count? Guess what? They can. If your budget allows, consider running targeted ads to gain more visibility. It’s like buying that prime spot in your future audience’s feed.

Final Thoughts

Growing YouTube subscribers takes consistency and work, but it’s also lots of fun! So have FUN blending creative content, community engagement, and data-driven strategies to explode your YouTube empire!

The Ultimate Guide to Monetizing Your YouTube Videos – 15 Musts

Ultimate Guide To Monetizing YouTube Videos

A successful YouTube channel can quickly become your cash cow. It’s allowed me to travel the world more than I ever thought possible. So how do you do it? I’m going to show you the exact path to take in this ultimate guide to monetizing your YouTube videos. (You’re welcome).

How Do I Monetize YouTube as a Beginner?

To monetize your YouTube channel successfully, make your primary focus tailoring your content to your audience’s needs first, consider multiple revenue streams past just ads, optimize your channel for growth, and make sure you always follow YouTube policies to avoid strike and demonetization.

The Massive YouTube Opportunity

YouTube isn’t just a video-sharing platform; it’s a straight up goldmine for content creators looking to monetize their channel. The sheer power of video content to engage and influence audiences worldwide has turned this into an opportunity you can’t pass up.

Massive audience: YouTube has over 2 billion logged in MONTHLY users. (Yes I said monthly.) It’s the second biggest search engine behind Google, and is available in 100 countries and a whopping 80 languages.

Unreal video consumption: People watch over 2 BILLION hours of video on YouTube every day. That’s billion with a “B”. That works out to over 83 MILLION hours watched every hour, and almost 1.5 million hours every MINUTE!

Video’s growing role: The best part, no matter your YouTube niche, your audience LOVES video. Video content is increasingly dominating online traffic, it’s often prominent in search engine results, and it is by far the preferred method for learning and knowledge consumption among younger demographics.

Putting Together the Perfect Content for Monetization

Understanding who’s watching your videos and what they want is a fundamental first step to building your YouTube channel. To kick things off, it’s crucial to define your YouTube niche – your very own specialized corner of YouTube where your content will dominate.

Make them binge!: Creating content that hooks viewers is one thing; but holding their attention to increase your watch time is another. Your content strategy should key in on getting users to binge-watch your videos, driving up both their engagement and your channel’s growth. This means using attention getting video titles, thumbnails, and making sure your videos are high-quality.

Not a flash in the pan: It’s not just about what’s popular now but also about content that stands the test of time. Sure, jumping on trends is a smart business strategy for YouTube to give your channel a timely boost, but “evergreen content” will keep viewers coming back, month after month, year after year. It’s all about finding the right balance that works for your channel.

Align your content with your audience: In my opinion, the content that combines your passions, your expertise, and delivers a genuine value to the audience forms the strongest foundation for a successful YouTube business. The more you align with these, the better your journey toward monetization will be. Remember, though, while the goal here is to monetize, you always have to prioritize your audience’s needs over any selling tactics.

Exploring Multiple Revenue Streams on YouTube

how to monetize youtube for beginners

While YouTube ad revenue can quickly become solid and consistent, you’re not just limited to ad revenue when it comes to making money on YouTube. Diversifying your income sources can help cushion against fluctuations in viewer trends or changes in YouTube’s monetization policies.

YouTube Partner Program (YPP): Ad revenue on YouTube is often the first port of call for new YouTubers. To maximize your earnings, you need to create content that not only builds views but also keeps viewers watching. Longer videos have the potential for more ad breaks, but remember, viewer engagement is key. Don’t be afraid to try out different formats. I’ve had a lot of success with longer form videos that kept my audience’s attention because I was methodically teaching them something.

YouTube Partner Program (YPP) Monetization Requirements:

  • You need to have a minimum of 500 subscribers.
  • Your channel must have 3 public uploads in the last 90 days.
  • You must accumulate either 3,000 public watch hours on long-form videos in the last 365 days or 3 million Shorts views in the last 90 days.

Sponsorships and brand deals: Sponsorships are like the icing on the cake. They can be lucrative, especially if your content aligns well with a brand’s target audience. When bridging partnerships, you have to maintain your authenticity and only promote products or services you’re genuinely passionate about or would actually use yourself. Never sell out. This maintains your trust with your audience, which is non-negotiable.

Channel merch: Do you have a loyal fanbase? If you do, consider leveraging your very own merchandise. YouTube’s merchandise shelf allows viewers to browse and buy your products directly from your video pages. Similarly, features like Super Chat and channel memberships allow viewers to show their appreciation by donating during live streams and beyond.

Now, before you jump headfirst into these revenue streams, you need to understand the importance of optimizing your content to keep growing your channel effectively. Let’s focus on how to do this for both income and growth.

Optimizing Your YouTube Channel for Income and Growth

You don’t build a YouTube empire that lasts by going viral overnight. Making money on YouTube involves a strategic approach to your content creation and channel optimization. Here’s how you can boost your YouTube channel for both revenue and increased viewership.

YouTube SEO: First up, let’s talk about search engine optimization (SEO) for YouTube. It might surprise you to know that YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world, right after Google. That means, if you want your videos to be found, you need to make them search-friendly. Use relevant keywords in your video titles, descriptions, and tags. Research what your audience is looking for and provide it in your content.

Consistency throughout your content: I’m going to clue you in on a little secret: consistency is key. And I’m not just talking about your video upload schedule, although that’s important too. Maintain a consistent theme and branding across your videos to help viewers immediately recognize your content. If you can, try to create a content calendar to plan and track your video posts. This can help you keep a steady flow of content, which is crucial in building a loyal audience.

Analytics: YouTube analytics should become your new best friend. It may seem like a lot at first, but YouTube does a great job focusing in on the metrics that give you the best insights into what’s working and what isn’t. Watch your analytics to see where your viewers are coming from, what they like to watch, and when they’re most active. Use this information to fine-tune your content strategy and grow your channel.

Now you’re armed with the know-how to optimize your YouTube channel. But that’s just the beginning. Up next, let’s look into how to follow the rules so you don’t end up in YouTube jail.

Staying Compliant, Following the Rules, and Building a Trusted Channel

Never forget the importance of keeping your channel in good standing. Straying from the rules can mean facing strikes, demonetization, or even channel termination. I’m going to walk you through the key points to ensure that doesn’t happen.

Stay up to date: First up, familiarity with YouTube’s monetization policies is non-negotiable. This means regular check-ins with the policy updates because, guess what? They are frequently updated. Sticking to the rules is crucial, and ignorance is not an accepted excuse in YouTube’s eyes. If you want to keep your revenue streams flowing, compliance is key.

Honesty is the best policy: Transparency is another cornerstone of a trusted channel. Let your audience know when content is sponsored and disclose any affiliate links. It’s not just a good practice for viewer trust; it’s often a legal requirement. When you’re honest with your audience, you’re not only respecting them but you’re also building your credibility and authority.

Be in it for the long haul: Building a successful YouTube channel is a marathon, not a sprint. Keep up with the always-evolving landscape of YouTube’s policies and features. As a content creator, it’s part of the job. You’re going to find out about new opportunities and shifts in regulations regularly, so staying informed and able to adapt is a must.

Final Thoughts

I really hope that you can use this guide as a launchpad into the world of YouTube monetization. Embrace the journey of monetizing your YouTube channel with tailored content, smart strategies, and make your focus delivering high-value to your audience consistently.

What do you think? How far along are you with your YouTube channel? Have many subscribers do you have? Are you close to monetization? What hurdles have held you back? Let me know in the comments section below! I’d love to hear your perspective and I always reply!

    4. What’s in a name?: Let’s talk about choosing the right channel name first. It’s the cornerstone of your brand. It needs to be catchy, memorable, while also giving potential viewers a hint at what to expect from you. When I chose the name of my YouTube channel it was all about the message I’m delivering through my content. You’re following me on YouTube right? Work From Your Laptop on YouTube.

    5. Setting up your YouTube account: This is a very straightforward process, but it’s important to think about your target audience as you do this. Use keywords that relate to your content so that you’re easier to find. Think about the visuals too. You’re going to want a solid logo and banner that represent your brand. First impressions count.

    6. Where to go for your logo and channel banner?: If you’re not the most creative person or you just need a bit of inspiration there are plenty of options for you. You can start with ChatGPT to help you brainstorm a logo. Canva is great if you have a bit more creativity, and there’s always Fiverr for finding someone with artistic expertise to create the perfect channel banner.

My recommendation is getting your hands on a tool like Wealthy Affiliate’s Image Studio. I use this for EVERYTHING. From logos, to all my website images, to infographics and Youtube thumbnails, this does it all. Check out my full Image Studio review on YouTube! Every content creator needs to get their hands on this!

    7. Let’s talk gear: A reliable camera, good lighting, and clear audio are your bread and butter. Don’t break the bank; start with what you can afford and upgrade over time. In fact, many successful YouTubers (including me) have started with nothing more than a smartphone and natural lighting.

    8. Don’t sleep on video editing: Picking the right video editing software is critical. Choose a video editing tool that you’re comfortable with. There are many free or inexpensive options that are user-friendly and packed with features. And don’t sweat it, your editing skills will grow with practice, trust me! Don’t be afraid of the learning curve, it’s totally natural. I work with a Mac, so Screenflow for Mac worked for me.. There’s also great AI tools for video editing like Descript that work like a charm.

The Fun Part: Videos Your Audience Can’t Get Enough Of

When you create content for your channel, it’s all about connecting with your viewers and keeping them coming back for more.

    9. The art of storytelling: When I start planning my videos, I try to think about the story they tell. A well-told story will make even educational content hard to turn away from and turn a simple vlog into a “must-watch”. Pay attention to your lighting, sound, and audio too. A great video can easily be ruined if it’s poorly produced.

    10. Focus on consistency: Consistency is really important when it comes to growing your channel. But don’t rush to publish low quality content just to stick to your posting schedule. Always maintain a high standard of quality. Balancing quality and consistency will help you build a loyal viewership that knows what to expect and looks forward to your next video.

    11. Grab their attention!: Thumbnails, titles, and descriptions are your silent (or not so silent) pitch to grab potential viewers. An attention grabbing thumbnail can make someone pause mid-scroll, while a clear and catchy title can be the difference between a click and a pass. Don’t undersell your video content, in fact, don’t be afraid to be over the top! Go grab those viewers!

YouTube SEO – Strategies for Building Your Audience

Let’s talk about some strategies that are critical for growing your audience, ranking on YouTube, and building YouTube authority.

    12. SEO is a game changer: When you understand the power of keywords, video tags, and descriptions, you suddenly catapult yourself into the YouTube stratosphere. For me, it took my videos straight to the top, and that makes a HUGE difference almost overnight. There’s ways to learn YouTube keyword research without tools and then there’s awesome YouTube tools like Tubebuddy and VidIQ to help you along.

    13. Always engage!: No one wants to be ignored! Engaging and interacting with your audience will explode their loyalty. This means responding to ALL their comments (even the bad ones, but not the profane ones, just delete those), starting conversations via the community tab, and even featuring Q&A sessions in your videos. It shows that you highly value them and it creates a living, breathing fan club around your content.

    14. Collaboration opportunities: Partnering with fellow YouTubers can offer access to whole new audiences and fresh content. Just be sure to choose collaborators who are highly relevant within your niche and your brand. Why not take a look at who your super fans are following? They can literally have a fangasm when two of their favorite channels form a collab.

    15. Don’t sleep on analytics: I’m not a big “analytics” guy, but YouTube really does provide excellent analytics tools to help you track your progress. For me, I feel they get it right when it comes to metrics that matter. Pay close attention to watch time, viewer demographics, and engagement rates. These metrics hold the key to fine-tuning your content strategy for sustained growth.

Turning YouTube Views Into Actual Revenue

You’ve put in the hours, published engaging video content, and have started building an audience that’s tuning into your YouTube channel regularly. Now, it’s time to cash in! Trust me, creating a YouTube channel is well worth it!

This single video to date has earned me almost $3,000!

    16. YouTube’s Partner Program (YPP): This program allows you to earn money directly from YouTube through ads, channel memberships, and Super Chat features during live streams. Believe me, it’s AWESOME!

As you can see from the image above, a single video can literally earn you thousands. To qualify, you’ll need to meet certain thresholds including 500 subscribers, 3 valid uploads in the last 90 days and 3000 watch hours over the last 12 months.

Don’t worry, publish quality content on a regular basis and you’ll get there quicker than you think!

    17. Affiliate marketing: Beyond ads, think about conversions. Affiliate marketing and YouTube go hand in hand. Find the highly relevant products and services related to your niche, think about the value they can bring your audience, and then do a high quality review and place your affiliate links in your video descriptions.

Your audience will thank you by following your affiliate link and making that purchase because it’s EXACTLY what they’ve been looking for. Trust me, you don’t have to “sell” your audience on services that will bring them real value. That’s the key!

    18. Sweet merch and swag: Then there’s the exciting world of merchandise. If you have a brand that your audience loves, merchandise can be a direct way to capitalize on that loyalty. From t-shirts to mugs, there are plenty of options that can be reflective of your brand identity and extend your reach.

    19. Exclusive content: Some creators turn to Patreon or other crowdfunding platforms for a more predictable income stream. This allows your most dedicated fans to support you directly, often in exchange for exclusive content or perks.

    20. Your audience comes first!: Throughout this process, it’s ultra important to keep your audience’s trust at the forefront. Don’t sell them out or alienate them by only seeing them as dollar signs. Any monetization strategy should be put together with your audience’s best interests first.

Bring real value, make it worth their time and money to follow you, and watch your viewership explode. This isn’t anything new to them, they’re used to monetization, so just make it worth it.

    Final Thoughts

Your YouTube success is a blend of engaging, high value content, understanding your audience, having a little technical savvy, and smart monetization. Have fun with it!

    Why Keyword Research Matters:

    • It’s the foundation for channel growth, increasing watch time, gaining subscribers, and earning YouTube ad revenue.
    • When viewers search on YouTube, they want answers. By understanding their search queries, you can tailor your content to fit their needs.
    • Keyword research helps in creating content that matches the real and current searches being made by your actual target audience.
    • Understanding your audience’s needs is the number 1 way to landing top ranking in YouTube search results.

    YouTube’s Powerful Built-in Tools:

With YouTube, in my opinion, it’s easier to rank than it is on Google. There are a ton of keyword research tools out there for ranking on Google, but by using YouTube’s built in tools, you can rank just as easy and without paying a dime.

Most YouTube keyword tools like Tubebuddy and VidIQ get their data from YouTube itself anyway. So instead of spending on external tools, use YouTube’s built-in analytics. It offers insights into potential traffic, search volume, ranking probability, and competitor metrics.

Remember, the best keyword research tool for YouTube is YouTube itself!

    • YouTube Autocomplete: As you type a query in the search bar, YouTube suggests popular searches based on what actual members of your target audience are actively looking for.
    • YouTube Analytics: Found within your YouTube Studio account, this tool provides great insights into your channel’s performance, revealing plenty of keyword ideas your audience is actively searching for. Navigate to YouTube Studio and select Analytics to access insights on video performance, audience preferences, and trending topics.

Infinite Topics to Create Content Around, No Matter Your Niche

The more you dive into YouTube’s autocomplete the more you see topic after topic you can create content around.

Let’s say your YouTube niche is based on fitness and home workouts. YouTube autocomplete gives you a number of great searches your target audience is actively making by simply typing in a sample search that’s relevant to your niche.

    YouTube autocomplete

The best part about these topics is that they are actual searches being made by your actual target audience. This is relevancy 101! Deep diving further into these topics will reveal even more honed in searches as well!

Looking at View Count & Watching the Competition

Once you’ve found a keyword you want to create your video around, click on it to see what videos your competition has already put out there. The first thing you’re going to look at is view count

    • If the top ranking videos have a very high view count, there’s potential here. This means the topic is popular
    • If the top ranking videos have a very low view count then this is an unpopular search. Don’t waste your time if your audience isn’t there.
    • Watch 2-3 videos. Ask yourself, “Can I do better than this? Are there topics and questions that aren’t covered in these videos that I could cover better?”

Using YouTube Analytics for Keyword Research

Accessible through YouTube Studio, YouTube offers GREAT metrics for your YouTube channel and can offer up tailored searches made by your audience for you to deep dive into. By analyzing these metrics, you can spot keyword opportunities and adjust your content to match audience preferences.

    1. From YouTube Studio click on “Analytics”
    2. Click on any video you’d like to deep dive into for personalized keyword topic ideas
    3. Now click on “Reach”
    4. Scroll down to the “YouTube Search Terms” section

These are the literal search terms that brought your audience to your video. This is YouTube hand feeding you what has worked in the past along with ideas for keywords you could make new videos around.

Next click on “See More” and take a look at the full listing of keyword searches your audience has made to arrive at your video. See any that are more relevant to related topics as opposed to exactly what your video is about? These are the keywords you should create new content around!

    Final Thoughts

Utilizing YouTube’s built-in tools for keyword research can significantly enhance your channel’s growth, rankings, and revenue. With Autocomplete and Analytics you’re equipped to create content that resonates with your audience and drives channel success.

What’s your experience been ranking on YouTube? How have you done YouTube keyword research in the past? Let me know what you think in the comments section below!
