Running ads means you’re paying to figure stuff out, including:

  • Your headline
  • Your image or video
  • Your audience targeting
  • The landing page experience
  • The actual product or offer

And if even one of those pieces is off? Your budget can disappear faster than you’d believe.

And if you’re not tracking what’s broken, you don’t learn anything useful. Trust me, this is not a great strategy for any beginner affiliate marketer.

They can work really well, but only after you’ve done a few important things:

  • You’ve already made content that brings in traffic or leads regularly
  • You’ve tested your message and know what gets people to take action
  • You’ve got an offer or freebie that actually gets results
  • You know who your audience is and where they spend time online
  • You’re okay with possibly losing a little money while testing

If you’ve got all that figured out, then you can consider doubling down with paid ads.

Want to be extra smart with your ads? Try using them to:

  • Show ads again to people who visited your site but didn’t sign up (called retargeting)
  • Find new people similar to your best visitors (these are called lookalike audiences)

That’s when paid ads can really start to pay off.
