It’s a battle of the bots! ChatGPT 3.5 vs ChatGPT 4! Which is better at answering impossible questions?
I’m going to ask ChatGPT a series of mind-bending, purposefully confusing, and even philosophical questions! It’s really eye opening how it uses reasoning to answer these questions.
Trust me when I say you won’t believe these answers!
Chat GPT 3.5 vs ChatGPT 4 Q&A, Which AI Answered Better?
In this battle of the AI bots, both ChatGPT 3.5 and ChatGPT 4 performed stellarly, but surprisingly they completely disagreed on one question, and ChatGPT 3.5 added some great humor in another. It’s a toss up!
Artificial intelligence has come a really long way. ChatGPT 3.5 hit the internet and exploded our brains with curiosity. With so many applications for online business, content writing, and more, now ChatGPT 4 has arrived and we are learning just how incredible this AI is going to become.
In this article, I’m comparing ChatGPT 3.5 vs ChatGPT 4 to see how they tackle five paradoxical questions. Their responses are seriously amazing, and in my opinion, this experiment needs to be watched to be fully appreciated.
1. If You Travel at the Speed of Light and Turn on Your Headlights, What Happens?
Right away, ChatGPT 3.5 opens its answer explaining that the premise of the question is an impossible one.
Infinite energy would be needed for an object with mass to reach the speed of light. That being said, it allows itself to answer the hypothetical question. It states that if something somehow managed to reach the speed of light and then turned on its headlights the light from the headlights wouldn’t react the way we think it would.
It explains that light would emanate in all directions from the object because, get this, “at the speed of light the concept of forward no longer exists”.
Mind. Blown.
So how did ChatGPT 4 answer?
ChatGPT 4 opens right out the gate with “as an AI I cannot travel at the speed of light or turn on headlights”. Very funny. Then it actually went on to disagree with ChatGPT 3.5’s answer. ChatGPT 4 states that even at the speed of light your headlights would emit light going away from you because everything is relative.
This was a perfect example of how these AI bots interpret from their own knowledge base. They actually use reason to come up with a totally unique answer!
Who came out on top?
It’s hard to beat an answer like “at the speed of light the concept of forward no longer exists.” ChatGPT 3.5 wins this one!

2. If Two Mind Readers Read Each Other’s Thoughts, Whose Thoughts are They Reading?
Right away, ChatGPT 3.5 is familiar with the premise of the question, calling it “the mind reading paradox”. It accurately describes the paradox, explaining the difficulty of one mind reader attempting to read the other mind reader’s thoughts, which in turn are trying to read his own thoughts, and so on.
ChatGPT 3.5 describes the back and forth attempts of mind readers reading each other’s thoughts as an infinite loop of thoughts like two mirrors facing each other. What an original way to describe that phenomenon!
It finishes its answer by stating that this isn’t actually a scientific question, since mind reading isn’t possible and it’s more of a conceptual type question.
ChatGPT 4 echoes the same basic concept, and even describes the paradox in more detail. Additionally, instead of describing the paradox loop as two mirrors facing each other, I feel it one-ups ChatGPT 3.5 by describing it a “feedback loop.”
It adds to that stating that the situation would be dependent on the specific abilities and limitations of the mind readers involved, and their ability to discern whose thoughts belong to whom.
Super interesting!
Who came out on top?
In my opinion, both models offered similar explanations, but ChatGPT 4’s more detailed response and impressive metaphor introducing the concept of a feedback loop wins out for me.
3. Which Came First, the Chicken or the Egg?
This is an age old question given the AI twist. I was really surprised how both ChatGPT 3.5 and ChatGPT 4 answered this particular question so directly.
The answer given by ChatGPT 3.5 is straightforward and informative, explaining that the egg came first. It suggests that the first chicken must have come from an egg laid by a bird that was not quite a chicken, but a closely related ancestor.
The genetic change that created the first true chicken likely occurred through a random mutation that altered the bird’s reproductive cells. I had never heard this answer before and it actually makes perfect sense!
ChatGPT 4 agrees that the egg came first but introduces the concept of birds evolving from reptiles. It follows a similar line of reasoning as ChatGPT 3.5, highlighting that a bird not quite a chicken laid an egg with the genetic mutations necessary for the classification of a chicken.
Who came out on top?
For this question both models provide clear answers that agree on the egg coming first. Both AI bots win this question.
4. How Much Wood Would a Woodchuck Chuck if a Woodchuck Could Chuck Wood?
ChatGPT 3.5 had me rolling on this one.
It keeps repeating the tongue twister over and over within its response making the answer hilarious to listen to! Seriously, watch the video above for this answer. It’s worth it! While acknowledging that woodchucks don’t actually “chuck” wood, it presents a hypothetical scenario in which a woodchuck could.
The response factors in variables such as the size and strength of the woodchuck, the size of the wood pieces, and the speed at which the woodchuck could chuck wood. It even cites a study by a biologist named Richard Thomas, estimating that a woodchuck could chuck approximately 700 lbs of wood if it were capable of doing so.
I was floored! Such a great answer as it gathered info from its knowledge base.
ChatGPT 4 begins with a similar acknowledgement that woodchucks do not chuck wood, and also cites the same study by Richard Thomas. However, it didn’t use the same kind of humor in its answer. ChatGPT 4 explains everything very well, but didn’t have that same “oomph” ChatGPT 3.5 did.
Who came out on top?
ChatGPT 3.5 stands out with its hilarious use of humor and incorporation of the tongue twister into its response.
5. If You Traveled Back in Time and Met Your Younger Self, Who Would Be the Real You?
ChatGPT 3.5’s response explains that both versions of yourself would be real, with the younger self representing the past and the older self representing the present. It delves into philosophical perspectives on personal identity, such as the psychological continuity theory and even four-dimensionalism theory.
I got major Interstellar vibes here.
The answer concludes that the question of which version is the real you is a matter of philosophical interpretation, with no definitive answer. These AI bots get deep!
ChatGPT 4 also acknowledges that both versions of yourself would be real, representing different points in your personal history. It distinguishes between the younger version as the real you from the past and the older version as the real you from the future.
Similar to ChatGPT 3.5, ChatGPT 4 concludes that determining who is the “real” you is a matter of perspective and interpretion.
Who came out on top?
Both models offer similar answers, but ChatGPT 3.5 went deeper into philosophical perspectives, providing a more comprehensive answer.

Final Thoughts
While their responses are generally similar, there are noticeable differences in style and depth. ChatGPT 3.5 tends to provide more humorous and succinct answers, while ChatGPT 4 offers additional detail and explanation.
How did you like these answers? Did you watch the video? Isn’t it GREAT?!
I feel like we’re just scratching the surface with ChatGPT! It’s an amazing tool for efficiency and those who use it correctly are going to find themselves light years ahead of their competition. Have you tried using ChatGPT 4 for blogging?

Hi Eric, very interesting post. I hate to admit that I’m a bit of a sucker for this new tech. I really struggled with writers block before but now ChatGPT has helped me out so many times when I’ve been stuck and I am publishing a lot more because of it.
However, I didn’t realise there was two versions you could use. How do you access ChatGPT 4 is this the paid one?
Eric Cantu says
Yeah I use ChatGPT all the time so I sprung for ChatGPT Plus, the paid monthly membership. And it’s because I’m a paid member I have access to ChatGPT 4. I’ll admit though, since ChatGPT 3.5 is so much faster and has no usage limits like ChatGPT 4 currently does, I find myself using ChatGPT 3.5 more often. Thanks for the comment!
It’s fascinating to see how AI has come. The speed of light question was my fave! Do you think that ChatGPT 4 will be the next big thing in natural language processing, or do you anticipate even more advanced models in the future? How far can this go? Thanks for sharing your insights!
ChatGPT is already the next big thing. Who knows how far it will go in the next 3-5 years. It’s gonna be an impressive ride! Thanks for the comment!
Hilarious article. I never thought about doing this and it reminds me of the good old days of asking Siri silly questions to get her response.
Are you finding that ChatGPT 4 is better for blogging then the earlier versions? I haven’t tried it yet so I’m interested in hearing your opinion. I’m fairly new to AI so I’m still learning.
Keep up the excellent content. I’ll be coming back for more.

Right now, to be honest, my go-to is ChatGPT 3.5 just because of its speed. ChatGPT 4 is still slow going and limited with how many requests you can make. Once that comes around I’ll probably move over to ChatGPT 4.
Very interesting post about AI… It’s interesting to see the differences between the two and that it’s even developing a sense of humour…
I have been using ChatGPT to help with some research for my blog and I think it has really sped up the process and helped outline some great insights to include.
I can see the benefits of using AI to help and am interested to keep up with what’s going to happen, going forward…
It’s a spectacular tool. I think we’re just scratching the surface! Thanks for the comment!
Do you feel that ChatGPT 4 is an extension of the information ChatGPT 3.5? Should I consider this AI to be a programmed Bot with built in software that needs to be updated periodically? You are right! These questions and answers are mind blowing. I am curious to know how artificial intelligence bots know philosophical answers. It is pretty amazing. It is like they are thinking. 😂
With each version of ChatGPT the AI becomes smarter and smarter with more capacity to reason. ChatGPT 4 is the update to ChatGPT 3 and 5 will be the update to 4 and so on.
Hi Eric,
AI is certainly evolving quickly and you proved it by comparing the two latest editions. I must admit they both gave some pretty good answers to questions that were pretty confusing. It’s really kinda scary what AI is going to be capable of even in a few years, let alone about 10 years from now? Good read Eric!
Agreed! Thanks for the comment!
