Today I want to talk about how realistic “working from your laptop” can actually be for the average person. Now, I don’t want you to start dreaming about a life of luxury, you being your own boss, jet-setting from epic destination to epic destination, because, let’s face it, that’s not very realistic.

And honestly that’s usually the main problem with most online business training platforms or multi-level marketing platforms that try to sell this completely unrealistic dream of being filthy rich. They try to paint a picture of a business that works all on it’s own while you sit on a beach with a mojito.

We live in reality, and businesses just don’t work that way.

But if you’re like me, and you’re somewhat entrepreneurial minded, you may have had the idea creep up into your brain, realistically asking yourself “How can I create another stream of revenue?” And the problem, at least for me, seemed to be that there were ZERO platforms online that could teach me how.

First, let’s cover the major red flags you should always be aware of when you’re looking for an online opportunity. I’ve done a ton of reviews on online businesses, and I don’t know who is passing around this blueprint, but it feels like 95% of all online business platforms are following the exact same unrealistic plan.

Red Flag #1

• The flashy guru-led platform: Whenever you see some guy or girl in an ad on social media stepping out of a mansion, or driving up in a Lamborghini, or showing you their bank account at an ATM, you should be thinking to yourself, “This is a really bizarre way to introduce any kind of legit training.” Trust your instincts.

Red Flag #2

• “Done For You” systems: There is no such thing as a “done for you” business! If a platform is trying to sell you on the idea that their “system” will do 90% of the work while you sit back and do 10%, this is a MAJOR red flag. Anyone who is only doing 10% of the work for their business is the owner of a FAILING business. Remember that.

Red Flag #3

• Unrealistic promises of revenue: This red flag is often paired with the “Done For You” promise, as in “This is the same full proof system I earned $90,000 in 30 days with!”. Trust your gut. There is no such business that you can plug into, do 10% of the work, and come out with almost 6 figures in a month. I’ve literally seen this kind of promise over and over.

By simply being able to identify these red flags, you’ll save yourself thousands of dollars from 90% of the online training platforms out there.

The #1 key thing to remember when building any business: you have to LEARN first. Every single job you’ve ever had gave you some sort of training first so you can learn HOW to do the job. Online business is no different. Don’t start a business with a focus on how much money you’re going to make, focus on how much you’re going to LEARN first.

You have to put in the work. We live in reality. There’s no “done for you” anything out there.

Most businesses require time and patience to turn a profit. Whether it’s a brick and mortar business or an online business, you’re not going to suddenly be earning $1000 your first month. You’re still in the learning phase at that point. I didn’t earn my first dime until 6 weeks into my affiliate marketing business. It just takes time and this is 100% normal.

All that being said, an online business where you put in the work, focus on learning, and have patience will be COMPLETELY WORTH IT. The online world is a massive global marketplace, and there is opportunity everywhere. Whether it’s through affiliate marketing, building websites, or growing a YouTube channel, if you’re looking for a new stream of revenue, it’s out there for the taking.
