YouTube Video Marketing Strategies – How to Succeed with YouTube Video SEO Marketing

This video is filled with YouTube SEO tips on how to do youtube marketing. You’ve been searching for how to rank YouTube videos on Google, searching for how to get your YouTube videos more traffic, but hadn’t found that secret sauce? Look no further. Watch the following video filled with YouTube video optimization strategies including the ones so many people neglect.

YouTube Video Marketing Strategies Most People Neglect: Optimize the Video Metadata Content Before You Upload it to YouTube

The first area many people neglect to optimize is within the video itself in its metadata content. Right click the video you want to upload to access this information. You might think this is an area no one sees, so why add info like keywords and content here?

The truth is that YouTube sees it. You know how when you upload a video, YouTube already has a title ready for it? Where do you think they grab that from? YouTube doesn’t watch your video to determine where it goes, it looks at the videos metadata information.

Placing key information here allows YouTube to know exactly where to catalogue your video. This is key for YouTube video SEO marketing. When your video is the answer to more searches, this means more traffic.

Did you know there are 3 key places you can optimize within the video metadata before you even upload it to YouTube?

YouTube Video Marketing Strategies

Optimize the Video Title

This first one is the only one most people get right. Make sure your video title includes the keyword your wanting to rank with just as you would with a regular blog post. That’s pretty common SEO practice.

Add Tags

In the video’s metadata there’s an area you’ll see where you can add tags. This is where you want to enter relevant keywords that you’d like your video to come up for. Think of search terms your audience would look for and enter those here.

Add Content to the Comments Area

The comments area is a spot that so many people leave blank. Take advantage of this space and write a mini blog post about the video! Space is limited, so you can’t get too wordy. Create a solid introduction here and it will naturally be filled with relevant keywords.

By taking advantage of these 3 areas within the videos metadata you are basically giving YouTube detailed directions of exactly where you’d like your video to be catalogued. Take full advantage of this and you’ll reap the rewards.

YouTube Video Marketing Strategies: Optimizing on the YouTube side

YouTube Video Marketing Strategies

Now that the video’s metadata is optimized, it’s time to do the same on the YouTube side as you upload and publish it.
There are 4 areas to optimize:

  1. title
  2. description
  3. tags &
  4. thumbnail.

YouTube Video Title

Much like you did when optimizing the video itself, you want to make sure the title is the main keyword you’re targeting. If you have room, feel free to add to it with another keyword. Make the title draw people in.

YouTube Video Description

You want to front load the YouTube video description with the most important details. This is because once when the video is playing, only the top portion of the video description is visible. Take advantage of this.

Start the YouTube video description with your video’s keyword-rich title and follow it with any important link you’d like your audience to follow. This may be a link to the full blog article where the video appears or any other link you like. Use the rest of the video description to add a mini-blog post. You can use the same content you used in the video’s metadata comments section earlier. Remember, YouTube doesn’t watch your video to determine what it’s about. It goes 100% by the information you provide.

By optimizing the content in this way, you are hand delivering all the video’s important information to YouTube. Now it knows to pull up your video when relevant searches are made for it.

YouTube Video Tags

Add all the relevant keywords you can to this section. Think of the most relevant searches your target audience would make and add them here so that your video can be the answer to those searches.

YouTube Video Thumbnail

Last but not least, use photoshop or another editing program to create a clearly visible title thumbnail. It should be 1280 x 720 and pop with clean, readable text that will make someone want to click on it.

Notice the video thumbnail for the video embedded in this blog post. There is no doubt what it is about and the text pops and is easy to read.

Using these YouTube Video Marketing Strategies both inside the video’s metadata and on the YouTube side will get you the traffic you’re looking for. YouTube Video SEO Marketing is an integral part of building your audience. Embed your YouTube videos into your blog post for even more traffic and better SEO. Taking these steps brings consistent traffic and the opportunity for consistent revenue.

Great information Eric. I’ve been wanting to Embed some of my videos in my blog posts and I’ve been shying away from YouTube because I’m not familiar with it. Your post will help me with a format to create my first SEO ready video! Also you said you belong to an online community that helps you with SEO and marketing, what is that?

    • Eric Cantu says:

I’m really glad this helped you out, Linda 🙂 A few months back I was looking online for any kind of training I could find towards building a straightforward online business. I kept finding scheme after scheme and MLMs, but I wanted something where I was in more control. I got lucky and found Wealthy Affiliate. Thanks for the comment! Glad to help!

  • pmbaluka2016 says:

This is an excellent article on YouTube videos and I think this is a valid information to people like me who are learning how to do online business. I posted two videos on YouTube several months ago and when I search them I don’t easily find them. Now, after reading your article I understand the reason behind it. I wonder if there is any room to edit and include the meta title and description? How would this affect the already uploaded videos?

    • Eric Cantu says:

Good question, man. While you can edit on the YouTube side and optimize that info after uploading, you can’t replace the actual video with an optimized one 🙁

You know what though? Better late than never. Start optimizing now and then bring that good traffic to your website by embedding YouTube video into your WordPress blog, right? Thanks for the insight!

  • Keli Tucker says:

    Hi Eric!
Thank you for the information. I have been putting off making a YouTube video for my website, but know it is a big part of online marketing now. Do you mind if I ask, do you have other websites you run as well? The video and post were great and very informative, all the best to you!

  • teachexplorerun says:

Do you think to link a website to a youtube channel a great way to reach more and more people? I am debating on trying to work with my youtube videos and making them better in order to get traffic to my websites as well? Also, thanks for the great information about getting SEO for your YOUTUBE channel. Thanks!

    • Eric Cantu says:

That’s a good question, actually. I’ve seen a major benefit from creating YouTube videos and embedding them into my blog posts.

People are visual learners and absolutely love video. This is why YouTube is so popular. By creating video tutorials and then linking back to your website, you’re gaining a whole new audience. This is the audience that goes to YouTube first instead of Google. When you use good SEO for your YouTube video, you’ll get that video  ranked higher and get more eyes on it who will then follow your link to your website when they want to see what else you’ve got.

Creating quality YouTube videos with great SEO opens up yet another route of traffic to your site. Traffic equals revenue! 🙂 thanks for the comment!

  • Irma says:

Thank you Eric! Videos are going to be the next thing I work on for my website, and knowing what to optimize is so important. I will be bookmarking this page so I can find it again when I am ready. There is so much to know and I am glad that you make the information easier to deal with!

  • Jack Taylor says:

    Hi Eric,

I know I have been leaving a lot of traffic and money on the table by not utilizing YouTube. I guess video marketing seems to be more complicated than it is. I saved your website to my favorites. I’m going to try your video marketing tips in the next few days. Thanks again for the YouTube Video Marketing Strategies. Keep up the great work Eric!

    • Eric Cantu says:

What’s up, Jack? The great thing about learning all this stuff is the internet isn’t going anywhere. So better late than never, right? And it isn’t nearly as complicated as you would think. Follow a few simple techniques and you can optimize your YouTube videos with great SEO and get them the traffic they deserve. Video is also a great way to improve your bounce rate for your website, so working with video and gaining that whole new audience is really a win/win.

  • James says:

I didn’t realize you could boost your ranking potential by making these simple tweaks to your video. I’ve gone back to all my videos I have made for my site and made the changes you have discussed and reloaded them to my channel. Thanks so much for sharing this information.

    • Eric Cantu says:

Thanks, James. And remember, while you can update the info on the YouTube side of things and make that information fully optimized, you can’t go back and replace your uploaded YouTube video with an optimized one where you’ve optimized its metadata. You’d have to start from scratch for that. But hey, better late than never, right? Start optimizing all your videos from here on out!

      Thanks for the insight, brother.

  • Steve says:

Really important and great content. Very useful and smart. What I like the best, because I tend to think the same way, is that your YouTube channel is only a vehicle to get people to your websites.

But you have to use the tool correctly, and I think you’ve shown me how to do that. Much appreciated.

    • Eric Cantu says:

Hey Steve! Thanks for the comment. Some may use these YouTube SEO strategies to get more traffic to their YouTube videos because they want a bigger audience there. But the great part about it, as you pointed out, is you can use YouTube video SEO marketing to actually build traffic to your website as well. It’s a huge win/win as video is hugely popular and adding multimedia to any blog can help build quality traffic.

      Thanks again for the comment!

  • Tom says:

    Hi Eric,
Some very good tips there. I don’t really use youtube for marketing purposes but you make some good points about the benefits. I like how you pointed out how youtube is pretty much the same when it comes to SEO. Very interesting. Some nice tips there.

    • Eric Cantu says:

YouTube is a great avenue to get traffic from brother. I highly recommend it. There are a ton of people who go to YouTube first instead of Google, so might as well use SEO to rank high on both right? Thanks for the comment!

  • Craig says:

I’ve just been getting started on my YouTube channel and hadn’t really read up on how the SEO for the channel works yet. Thanks for sharing this great download on it. One other quick question, does embedding your youtube video in a page cause any penalties/issues from an SEO perspective? The reason I ask is I know that I can only turn embedding on/off in general and this means if I can embed it other people can. I worry someone might use my video on a poor site and it might reflect badly…

    • Eric Cantu says:

Good question, Craig. Don’t worry about that at all. Make sure your videos are able to be embedded as this brings even more eyes to your content. Even a bad site will get some good eyes on it now and again, and when those eyes see your quality content, they quickly realize your site is the place they should be if they’re on one with poor quality and content.

Thanks for the comment, man! I appreciate it.

  • isaac says:

Great tips Eric! I just starting to make videos for my blender review site and this is very beneficial to ensure my videos get some love from YouTube. It seems the technique is the same with normal website seo and not that difficult for me to understand.

Just wondering whether social shares will affect YouTube rankings or not. Do you think it’s important to share our videos on FB etc?

    • Eric Cantu says:

Thanks for the comment, Isaac! The whole point of improving your YouTube video marketing strategies is to get more eyes on your content, right? So social media sharing is a huge part of that. That’s the off-page SEO that goes hand in hand with the on-page SEO. Make sense? Keep up the good work! Thanks for chiming in!

  • Andrea says:

I have been meaning to/wanting to get my youtube channel going for a few weeks now… just a new hurdle to cross as I have just recently gotten into all of this a few months ago… really enjoying my blog but now knowing that it is time to kick it up a notch with the youtube. Thanks for the tips! Did it take you awhile to figure everything out or did you find that it was easy?

    • Eric Cantu says:

It all takes time, and there’s always a learning curve, but it isn’t a big one to overcome. I highly recommend going after that YouTube audience! It’s a big one! Everything I know here and talk about is just an echo of the training I’ve received over at Wealthy Affiliate. I can’t recommend them highly enough 🙂

      Thanks, Andrea!
